New Gold Standard in Protection
After nearly losing Wildwood’s protected status when The Land Conservancy of BC (Wildwood’s previous owner) entered bankruptcy protection, the Ecoforestry Institute sought the strongest form of protection for Wildwood.
EIS worked with representatives of the Attorney General, and Canada’s foremost trust lawyer, Dr. Donovan Waters, to develop a land trust deed that ensures Wildwood will forever remain under the stewardship of a non-charitable society and that supersedes any financial obligations against the property. EIS also developed an ecoforestry conservation covenant and an ecoforestry management plan vetted by one of Canada’s top ecoforesters, Herb Hammond of the Silva Forest Foundation.
EIS has set a new gold standard for protection of properties to be managed in the public domain through a “charitable purposes” Trust, coupled with a covenant and management plan.
